GEOFFREY OF MONMOUTH | AN EXHIBITION OF HIS LIFE & TIMES

THE GEOFFREY OF MONMOUTH exhibition covers life in Monmouth during the 12th century; Geoffrey’s career, and his influence on writers up to the present day. His work gave birth to the legends of King Arthur, created a history of British monarchs and inspired Shakespeare to write King Lear.

Visitors will discover how Geoffrey was born in or around Monmouth in about 1100, of a Breton father and a Welsh mother, at a time when all the borderland, from Hereford down to Chepstow, was owned by dukes from Brittany - their reward by William the Conqueror, for helping him invade Britain in 1066.

The Geoffrey Exhibition is housed in St Mary's Priory Church in the beautiful market town of Monmouth.
